Part Two of Dr. Pat Abbott's "Written in Stone" series, this video was produced in 2004 at San Diego State University. Aided by Dr. Tanya Atwater (UCSB) and Dr. Lucy Jones (USGS), Dr. Abbott describes what all residents should know about their geological environment. Key quote: "Earthquakes don't kill people - buildings do..." This video is also shared on the Earthquake Alliance's web site, but without closed captioning. I have added the captions so that I can use this video in my classes.

Los Angeles has been officially designated a ‘third world country’ status according to a public audit of the crumbling city. Rubbish bags piling up on the pavements, tents erected in clusters where people have camped down for the night, and hundreds of homeless people wondering the streets – this is what Christmas Day looked like for thousands of homeless people in Downtown Los Angeles this year. Dailymail.co.uk reports: The shocking footage – captured using a car dash camera – shows the brutal reality of life on the street for some 20,000 people in the notorious Skid Row district. Shot on 5th Street, 6th Street and San Pedro Street, it is a stark glimpse into the day-to-day existence of some of the country’s poorest citizens – including women and children. This area of LA’s central ...

Los Angeles Country Scene 1987 was the largest ever Country Music Concert held in Los Angeles, drawing over 125,000 attendees during the two day event. My partner Wil Davee and I were blessed to have a world class act such as Ralph May and The Ohio River Band to manage through our company, Five Star Productions. The musicians were “the crème of the crop.” Lead guitar playing, Greg Smith (aka Smitty Lyle) came all the way from Ohio to anchor this stellar band. We recruited Nick Raymond on drums, John Sleeger on Bass and vocals John currently plays in two very popular L.A. based originals bands and he is often seen in large venues with national acts. I believe they brought Mike Cross on keyboards along with them, Tina May did an awesome job singing all of the background harmonies. Mike C...
